18 May 2013: Makin' Magic Happen

Wedding Setup Carry

Pretty happy with my carry today.

I like knowing that the gear I own is put to good use, even when it's only once in a while, tailored toward specific tasks.

The tool pouch there is a cheap one from Harbor Freight.  I took it to help with the Hurricane Sandy Relief last December and it was great for that.  In it today I just have my Olight, Stanley knife, retractable Sharpie, and Leatherman Wingman.  Hanging off the carabiner is a roll of duct tape and about 7 meters of paracord.

I left out a lot of my normal carry on this simply because I'm at work and constantly moving.  I didn't need anything extra to pull me down and I definitely didn't want to accidentally leave something behind that is otherwise sentimental or of great monetary value - so no challenge coins or jewelry (other than the watch and bracelet).  Setting up for a wedding is a crazy amount of work and I'd rather leave anything extra behind and not have to worry about it.

02 May 2013: Pew Pew Pew! + Kimber Pepperblaster II

Pew pew!  :)  Went to the range today.  Didn't bring too much with me.

Also got the Kimber Pepperblaster II in the mail along with the custom IWB holster that a friend made for me.  Since I don't have a CCW and only shoot at the range (for the time being - CA is crazy)... I carry pepper spray.  I'd gotten a Kimber for a friend not too long ago.  Another friend got burgled about a week after so I gave her mine.  Then I picked this one up and shipped it directly to another friend who works with kydex to help me make a holster for it.

Girl pockets suck.  But most of the holsters made for the Pepperblaster are pocket holsters and it's way too hot to be wearing a coat otherwise.  So by all means, I had my friend make up an adjustable IWB holster knowing that I like to carry at 4 o' clock.  I think it's great!  The picture above shows it adjusted to about mid-height.  :)  It's surprisingly comfy, especially for something that's being worn with skinny jeans!

23 April 2013: Pre-Lunch PocketDump

Did a quick pocket dump at work today before heading out to lunch with a friend.  :)  Really diggin' my new patch that I got in the other day.  Thanks, friend!

Paracord Now Available at Michaels!

I was doing my nearly weekly Michaels run the other day and was quite surprised to find paracord in their stock.  It was prominently located at one of the front endcaps in the middle of the store.

The bracelets are priced at $3.99 each, with no tags regarding sizes - you'll just have to try them on and see.  They come in various color combinations, though.  :D  They also carry the buckles priced at $2.50 for a pack of 5.  On to the paracord themselves...

I opted for the maroon this time around.  These 16 foot hanks of paracord are running for $2.49 at my Michaels.  Coupled with a 50% coupon today, it came out to be $1.34 after CA tax.  Not bad for just a small bit of paracord when you want various colors.  +1 for being made in the US!  :D

The company that distributes these are Pepperell.  They seem to have a good amount of colors and accessories available.  I hope that Michaels continues to carry these, but since they do change their stock according to the trends, I'm pretty sure I'll just stock up as their weekly coupons come out.

It seems as though the idea of prepping, EDC, survival, etc. is starting to become a bit trendy.  :)  No worries!  More EDC goodies for me, right?  :D

First Monkey's Fist!

I just finished my first ever monkey's fist!  I followed Stormdrane's video on YouTube.  Though it was all visual (Stormdrane didn't speak or anything), it was the only video where I could actually see where the rope was being looped through.  10 minutes later, I have my first monkey's fist!

Yay!  :)

Sriracha on the Go!

Finally, my wait comes to an end! I can finally have sriracha sauce wherever I go.
I've always bright a small Nalgene squirt bottle with my lunches, but I've always wanted one on my keychain for those unexpected restaurant visits when I just need/crave that extra blast of spicy goodness.
The first time if actually thought about it was during my trip to Arizona when I'd stopped into a kitchen gadget store. There was this little bottle of something on a keychain and I'd just thought it would be perfect to carry sriracha around in. However, at over $6.00 for the thing, I deemed it not worth my purchase and carried on. However, the idea was always in the back of my mind.
When I'd come back from my trip, I kept going on Google to see if there were any keycha with tiny bottles.  No matter how many different search terms I'd tried, none of then populated with what I wanted.
Fast forward to this sleepless morning. I don't recall exactly what I was doing or even thinking about, but my mind eventually rested upon hand sanitizer bottles. Then I recalled making like paracord "caddies" that attached to keychain carabiners not too long ago. (They're also known as "germ grenades around the Interwebz.") For whatever reason, I'm not sure what triggered it, I'd figured the little one ounce bottles of hand sanitizer (in this case the Bath and Body Works one) would be perfect for my long awaited plans to come to life.
Lo and behold, the Sriracha Bomb was born.
It's on a lanyard for now, but if I can find the teenier Purell bottles (I think they're half ounce bottles), I'll throw the Sriracha Bomb on my keychain instead.
I'm quite the satisfied person right now. I think I can finally drift off to sleep. I'm going to have to regardless since school starts in about 2 hours!
